The Eleventh EDCTP Forum will officially start tomorrow, 7 November 2023, and will run until 10 November 2023. It will take place in Paris, France and virtually. This Forum, which is themed Partnering for Global Health Research Innovation and Impact in Africa – Celebrating EDCTP: two decades and beyond, presents an opportunity for participants working in global health research around the world to join with us in diverse Forum activities anchored in a compelling scientific programme. The Eleventh Forum will also present an opportunity to celebrate the 20th anniversary of EDCTP’s establishment.
We bring you this year a very rich programme. Here is an overview of what you can expect in the coming days.
The Forum plenary sessions will feature invited speakers who are leaders in their respective areas of research. The parallel sessions will consist of abstract-driven oral presentations on a wide range of topics of clinical research covering poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases, within the scope of EDCTP. A number of oral and poster presenters will be early career investigators and scientists who will receive support to participate in the Forum through our scholarship programme. Additionally, the Ana Lúcia Cardoso Weinberg and Ricardo Pereira scholarships will provide an opportunity for early and mid-career investigators from Portugal and Portuguese-speaking African countries to present an abstract at the Forum.
The ‘Meet the experts‘ sessions will give young researchers the possibility to attend group meetings with leading experts in the field of poverty-related and neglected infectious diseases. The sessions will offer an opportunity for informal discussions and will allow young researchers to present their questions and gain knowledge.
Scientific symposia will be organised by groups of researchers or organisations on a variety of topics related to the Forum theme, promoting interactive discussions and exchange of views with Forum delegates. Forum delegates will also have the opportunity to participate in workshop sessions for training and development targeted at junior researchers, EDCTP grant holders and fellows.
We wish to extend a special thanks to our sponsors. Their generous contribution supports the organisation of the Eleventh EDCTP Forum and ensures broad participation of junior researchers through the Forum’s scholarship programme. The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), Gulbenkian Foundation, La Caixa Foundation, Irish Aid, Botnar Research Centre for Child Health, Medical Research Council UK (UKMRC) and Avacare Health are among the organisations that are supporting the Eleventh Forum scholarship programme. We would also like to invite you to join the sponsored satellite sessions organised by PANTHER, PATH and the Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative (DNDi). Sponsored satellite sessions take place from Wednesday 8 to Friday 10 November from 08:00 to 09:00 CET and are open to all registered Forum participants.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of our partners and hosts for the Forum, the Ministry of Higher Education and Research of France and ANRS | Emerging Infectious Diseases.
Don’t forget to check out the Forum programme for the latest information on the sessions, speakers and presentations.
